The main objective of the symposium is to promote the meeting, exchange and discussion about the general problem of deteriorated volcanic soils (tepetate, talpetate, cangahua, cancagua, hardpan, trumao, etc.) all over the world.
The papers on the symposium will be presented in four sessions focused on the following areas:
I.- Genesis, Characterisation and location
The origin of hardened formations (pedological or geological); cementing agents; physical chemical, mineralogical and micro-morphological characteristics, classification, etc.
II.- Rehabilitation, Ecology, Management, Productivity and Impact on the Environment
Ecosystem based management approaches, consevation, fertility, reclamation techniques, agro-forestry, mechanisation possibilities and tillage.
III.- Erosion, Hydrodynamics, Erosion modeling and Soil Conservation
Erosion, erosion modelling, hydrodynamic in volcanic soils, soil conservation practices.
IV.- Social and socio-economical aspects
Gender problems in rural regions with deteriorated volcanic soils; history and associated problems of use of hardened soils, its exploitation and the environment-man relations.
